InnovaSec
InnovaSec is a specialist R&D organisation supporting the development of innovative cyber, physical and combined cyber-physical security technology that meets the needs of users. We are a UK SME and work within the Severn Valley Cyber Security Cluster.
Each of our four Directors has over 20 years’ technical and business experience working in Defence, Microelectronics, Security and Transport for customers across Europe and in the US. We support business and academic teams who tackle demanding technical challenges and develop new market offerings.
We have formed close working relationships with public and private sector organisations including: UK police forces; the UK Home Office; international seaports and airports. We are currently working with universities and suppliers in Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
Our business is about people: our customers, our partners, end users and, of course, our own team. We adopt an evidence-based approach to both technical and commercial decision making.
Technology
Cyber-physical systems abound in our increasingly connected world.
They can make our lives safer and easier but introduce potential vulnerabilities.
They support food production and supply the water and power we need to live.
Developments including the Internet-of-things and Industry 4.0 are accelerating this trend.
These trends complement, but do not replace, the importance of the human in systems and
especially in their security.
InnovaSec contributes innovative technology to the security of these systems where IT, physical assets and people coexist.
We are an innovative, research-focussed organisation and usually work as collaboration partners or subcontractors for specific tasks. Recent customers have called on us to provide the following:
- Capture and manage User Requirements, without which technology solutions may not achieve market traction.
- Systems Engineering to manage the design lifecycle, especially the relation between User Requirements and System Requirements and the trade-offs that are inevitably involved. Many technical systems are part of, or are dependent on, others and we understand the need to manage "systems of systems".
- Provide technical leadership in specialist areas; for example, our staff hold visiting Chairs in non-visible imaging techniques and in micro-electronics. We also provide technical advice and support for the European Association of Airport and Seaport Police.
- Undertake independent review and assessment of the technical and commercial merit of new projects to identify risks and opportunities.
Market
We have over 20 years' domain experience of Law Enforcement and Homeland Security, working with the
European Union, US organisations, researchers, manufacturers and end users. We are familiar with the
market fragmentation observed on both the demand and the supply side. In the last five years, we have
analysed market trends and trade flows for public and commercial customers to guide public policy and
private investment. We use objective, quantified market data to assess the economic potential of
new offerings.
Business
Our staff are aware of the constraints and objectives in running a successful business and we use a
partnering approach to help our clients achieve their goals. Because the cyber-physical security area
spans multiple disciplines we are used to working with business managers and leaders, legal and ethics
experts, physicists and mathematicians, as well as engineers from a variety of different disciplines.
In the last two years we have carried out:
- Management of technical teams, to help them deliver new innovations.
- Market analysis to guide business strategy.
- Bid management and bid reviews.
- Development and delivery of R&D partnerships involving organisations across Europe (including EU Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe project work) to develop new products and services.
